A Tier 1 Finance Services client needed a multi region cloud architecture to make their critical services more resilient to outages and attacks. This coupled with strict regulatory set RPO / RTO requirements and history of single region failures was present within the organisation

My Role
I was responsible for architecting the multi-region resiliency pattern that ensured service continuity, Automated failover and regulatory compliance while manging balance between Cost & Operational stability.
Activity 1
Mapped all service dependencies: app tiers, data sources, identity, network & 3rd Party integration.
Activity 2
Designed resilience architecture using:
- Azure Zonal Redundancy with a primary & active secondary region for an Active/Active failover pattern
- Cross region replication using azure paired regions
- Azure Front door for efficient and reliable global routing
- Geo-redundant storage and Database replication aligned to agreed RPO
- Decoupled identity using Azure AD and conditional access
- Resilient Hybrid connectivity - ExpressRoute & VPN configurations
Activity 3
Validated the design through failure-mode analysis, chaos simulations and embedded the recovery steps in the Disaster Recovery playbook and Operational model.
